          The manual covers consumer preferences such as: males vs. females, younger vs older, experience vs inexperienced, advertising:  all forms (and the risk in certain media usage), addressing personal needs, making checklists. ethical conflicts, conflict resolutions, how to report cases of abuse, glossary, and an index.  This manual is written to give information to persons on consumer-directed services, individuals with limited personal assistance services, consumers that pay out-of-pocket for their caregivers, agencies that hire and/or pay for attendant care services, and for people that are seeking employment as personal assistances to persons with disabilities. This manual may reduce the number of cases of abuse among children, adults, and elderly persons with disabilities by untrained caregivers.  The manual will be updated yearly.

           This manual is designed to assist persons who require personal assistance from outside resources.  The purpose and goal of this manual is to give empowerment and choice to individuals who require personal assistance to live independently in every-day life.  These individuals may include: persons or guardians who care for someone with a disability, older adults who live on their own, and anyone who may need personal assistance for daily living activities.  This manual can be distributed by agencies and businesses that serve individuals who need personal assistance to live independently within the community.
